Jewellery care

Our jewellery

All Moho jewellery is manufactured in Jaipur in India by highly skilled craftspeople. We pride ourselves on the quality of our product and we are working towards becoming as sustainable as possible. We have developed close working relationships with our manufacturers to ensure that product materials are ethically sourced and produced.

Gold vermeil

The majority of our jewellery is Gold Vermeil. Gold vermeil is made from a Sterling Silver base metal coated with 2.5 microns of 18k gold plate. This is very thick gold plating, which is much more durable than other gold-plated options, meaning it can maintain a lasting gold finish with the correct care.

We use fair trade gold for our plating and recycled silver for our base metal, contributing to our sustainable mission.

Gold filled or plated

We have a few large statement pieces which are gold filled or plated in 18k gold enabling us to offer them at an affordable price point. Gold filled jewellery is 2.5 microns of 18k gold plate on a brass base, still providing a very long-lasting finish of gold plate, in comparison with gold plating which is slightly thinner.

Jewellery care

There are many external factors that can influence the durability of your jewellery. Here are some key points to help you keep your jewellery looking its best and preserve the plating /gemstones so that you can enjoy wearing it for as long as possible:

* Always remove jewellery before contact with water and soaps such as washing your hands or showering.

*Always remove before contact with chlorine/swimming or using cleaning agents. These chemicals can affect the longevity and shine of the gold plating and gemstones.

*Always put your jewellery on last when dressing and take it off first when undressing to minimise exposure to lotions, perfumes, hairspray, make-up, body lotions, deodorant, suntan lotions and nail varnish/removers.

*Always store your jewellery pieces individually to avoid any tangling or scratching.

* Try to avoid direct sunlight and remove whilst sunbathing.  Keep in a cool, dark and dry place in a box or pouch and avoid extreme heat, direct UV rays or humidity as this can cause the colour and shine of the gemstones to fade.

*Always remove when doing exercise to avoid damaging.

*Clean your jewellery using a soft, non-abrasive and lint-free cloth or chamois to bring back the shine and lustre. Avoid using any polishing agents or abrasive jewellery cleaners.
